Just got back from seeing KOH - and I must say I wasn't disappointed it was everything I expected from a (good) Ridley Scott movie.
Orlando? He did well - stood his own against actor like Liam Neeson and Jermey Irons.
I felt that he was a little unsure at the beginning of the movie - but over the course he really grew into his role ...
Now Balian ... I wish they had shown more of his background, so I kinda understand where the critics come from that said it was hard to connect with Balian.I mean it's not that you don't feel for and with him but with more background it could have been so much stronger ...
Also there where time that I felt that there were some stuff left open ... or finished to soon.
I don't know I mean there wasn't a minute in the movie that dragged on - so no lets look a the clock syndrome ... I guess will see when the DVD come out what Scott cut ...
About the political controversial - Scott shows the Muslims more positive - very noble in the person of Saladin. He keeps a balance with the Christians - there are some really corrupted and brutal people but ne shows also a good side in the form of Balian and other characters. Really can't see why someone would get offended on either side ...
What else ... beautiful pictures, amazing soundtrack, the battle scenes just Wow (and no LOTR flashbacks!!!) ... but yeah def. R rating, it's pretty violent and bloody (just think Gladiator maybe a little more)
Acting besides Orlando whom I already mentioned ... great all around! The best for me was the actor who played Saladin. He was amazing - very charismatic ... IMO if anyone should get an Oscar nomination it should be him.
Will def. go again!!!!
